The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario 64 Merge in This Incredible Mod

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild takes Link to Whomp's Fortress in Super Mario 64 with a wonderful mod from Waikuteru.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was successful for several reasons. One of them is the inventiveness players can get up to using the games many systems. Nintendo used the shrine system to show off all the wild hijinks that were possible. Thanks to a mod from Waikuteru, you can take everything you’ve learned into a wild new shrine that you might’ve previously known as Whomp’s Fortress. Give it a look below.

That’s right Nintendo fans, Waikuteru put some Zelda into your Mario. That’s, of course, nothing new within the fan community. However, the level of detail and polish seen here is pretty remarkable. This unofficial mod not only looks phenomenal but perfectly captures the feel of Super Mario 64. Obviously, they couldn’t every mechanic from the N64 classic into BOTW, but they’ve still done quite a bit.

And that shouldn’t be much of a surprise. If you search through Waikuteru’s YouTube channel, you’ll see that they’ve been working hard over the last year to develop several unofficial mods for Breath of the Wild. However, this one is probably their best work yet.

It just looks so clean and perfectly meshes the two games. You can download the mod for either Wii U or Nintendo Switch. If you don’t feel comfortable putting unofficial mods on your system, I would definitely consider looking up a playthrough on YouTube to see the mod in action. User Mark Kurko has a pretty solid run if you need a link.
